Flight Operations

Bid routes, fly with smartCARS, and file PIREPs through the crew center. SkyWest Virtual Airlines flight operations are built around a simple, realistic pilot workflow from registration to shutdown.

SkyWest Virtual Flight Operations

Our flight operations are designed around a simple pilot workflow: register, connect Discord, download your ACARS config, bid a flight, fly the route, and submit your PIREP.

The goal is to make every flight feel organized, realistic, and easy to track. Pilots use the SkyWest Virtual crew center to access schedules, bid flights, download required tools, track operations, review reports, and stay connected with the VA.

Flight Preparation Checklist

Before every flight, pilots should complete a basic preparation flow to improve realism and reduce issues during the operation.

  • Confirm route: Make sure the selected flight, departure, arrival, aircraft, and route are correct.
  • Review charts: Check airport diagrams, departure procedures, arrivals, approaches, and runway expectations.
  • Check weather: Review METARs, TAFs, winds, ceilings, visibility, and alternate requirements.
  • Plan fuel: Use SimBrief or another dispatch tool to plan realistic fuel and alternate fuel.
  • Prepare ACARS: Load smartCARS and confirm the flight is ready to track before departure.
  • Connect to VATSIM: Use the correct callsign, flight plan, aircraft type, and remarks when flying online.
  • Brief departure: Review taxi route, SID, initial altitude, restrictions, and expected frequency changes.

PIREP Review

PIREP submission is part of the operational record for each pilot. Flights may be reviewed for completion, routing, flight time, aircraft use, landing data, and general operational quality.

Accepted

The flight was completed and meets normal VA reporting expectations.

Pending Review

The flight needs staff review before being added to the pilot’s official activity.

Returned or Rejected

The report may need correction or may not meet operational requirements.
